Restaurant Report Card: Jersey Mike’s
Then, it’s a Jersey Mike’s sub straight from the garden state.
“Everything is cut fresh,” said manager Jessica Brown. “Lettuce is cut fresh in the morning, onions are cut fresh.”
“You’re gonna see it cut in front of you,” said customer Stephen Torkington. “You’re gonna see them kind of putting the kind of effort into the sandwich that you’d like instead of just slapping it on there.”
But first, here’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week.
Moon’s Wings on Gray Highway scored a 74.
They had foods not at the right temperature, they stored raw eggs above cooked gyro meat, and the walk-in freezer was broken.
Other scores this week:
Downtown Grill on Mulberry Street Lane – 90
Fincher’s Barbecue and Catering on Houston Road – 95
Ginger Stir-Fry & Grill on Second Street – 95
Barberitos on Forsyth Road – 97
King Chef Restaurant on Shurling Drive – 86
Kudzu Seafood Company on Third Street – 92
Lil Benny’s Smokehouse on Wimbush Road – 100
Market City Cafe on Cherry Street – 83
Peach Swirl on First Street – 99
Pig on a Pie on Houston Road – 100
Shark’s Fish and Chicken Chicago Style on Pio Nono – 90
Steak Out on Riverside Drive – 98
Twang Southern Tastes and Sounds on Rose Avenue – 95
“I think it’s one of the better sandwiches here for sure,” said Torkington.
Part of the success is Mike’s way to make a sandwich–with a special combo of toppings.
Cleanliness is Mike’s Way as well.
“You never get a second chance to make a first impression,” said Brown. “So anytime someone comes in the store the dining room is the first thing they see so we try to keep that neat.”
Jersey Mike’s is making the grade this week.
