Restaurant Report Card: Harpin’s

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – This week on Restaurant Report Card we’re trying to some chicken salad at Harpin’s and they have a perfect health inspection score.

“No, it’s just a plain chicken salad,” said Harpin’s owner Paul Harpin.

The chicken salad may not have the complexity of others you taste.

“Just good ‘ol plain chicken,” said Harpin.

But owner Paul Harpin’s main dish at Harpin’s on Brookdale Avenue in Macon will leave you satisfied.

“We come savor his good food anytime we want to for lunch,” said customer Garrison Hammonfelt.

Harpin knows a thing or two about rocking at chicken salad.

“Well I was working for him in England,” said Harpin.

He cooked for Mick Jagger.

“I went to gigs just to you know, they had to play the concert,” said Harpin. “Many times we had to set up in a field.”

That led he and his wife to eventually open Harpin’s.

“Just a simple, clean as possible place with some good food,” said Harpin.

Plus, Paul’s all about that perfect health inspection score.

“I mean people understand if you go down you know a point or so because you know that could be for any reason. But to keep a hundred is everybody’s goal and it’s very hard–it’s a lot of work,” said Harpin.

Harpin’s is making the grade this week, and here’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week.

China Inn Restaurant on Vineville Avenue scored a 76.

There were certain waste kit procedures that weren’t followed, chicken wings were stored over beef broth and some food was not stored at the right temperature.
