Restaurant Report Card: Amici

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You have a variety of friends in your life already, but make room for the guys at Amici.

Amici is located at 101 West Hancock Street in Milledgeville. It has a ton of stuff on the menu, including pizza and sandwiches.

But there’s a restaurant that needs to step it up this week.

Kum O Restaurant at 7275 Hawkinsville Road scored a 50.

The person in charge didn’t know about proper food safety guidelines, dry powder was covered in fruit flies, and the ice machine panel was dirty.

Good scores this week.

The kitchen’s friendly, and the whole restaurant ends up welcoming you in. That’s how manager John Schultze wants it.

“Great staff, always a fun, inviting atmosphere,” said Schultze.

Amici loves being a part of the college town.

“It just kind of fosters a sense of community in a small place,” said Schultze. “If you don’t have places for people to come and congregate and eat and have drinks and meet up, then they’re just going to go to class and eat and then leave and nothing will happen in the town.”

Plus the food is friendly to your taste buds.

“The classic Italian is my favorite,” said Schultze. “It’s got cheese and banana peppers, stone ground mustard, mayonnaise, throw it in the pizza oven for a minute so it’s hot and crispy.”

The health inspection is your “amico” as the Italian would put it, your friend.

“It’s extremely important to us,” said Schultze. “We strive as a team everyday to make sure that you know we are producing quality food in a quality way and cleanliness is a part of that. If you don’t have a clean work environment, a clean space for people to come in then they don’t feel safe to eat in your restaurant and then we just wouldn’t be a restaurant.”

Amici is making the grade this week.
