Response to Music Authority Board’s Decision on the Museum’s Future

Macon native Scottye Jones had this to say about the Music Authority Board’s decision to decline a recommendation to accept Macon’s bid, “ I don’t think it’s fair.”

It’s been a long process trying to keep the Music Hall of Fame in Macon. Chairman of the group Save the Halls, Inc., Mike Dyer said ” All the work that’s been done. I’m a little disappointed they voted to not accepted their own recommendations.”

According to Dyer, the delay is because of a strong bias towards Atlanta, “It’s only speculation on my part, but I obviously think that there were individuals on the Authority that felt that Atlanta had not had a fair shot to put in a proposal in place…and they would do whatever they could in their mind to open it up for a new RFP process and then Atlanta could get in.”

Now the criteria for choosing where the museum belongs is up in their air, but supporters are still hoping for the best as the official deadline in April remains looming.

“[We hope] whatever will be done will be fair to Macon, and we will be treated right in the process. I certainly do not think we’ve been treated right in this process up to this point,” said Dyer.
