Residents Concerned About Plans Near Ballpark
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Neighbors who live near Gwinnett Stadium say they’re concerned about plans to build apartments nearby.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports (http://bit.ly/wFD4TZ) that planning commissioners are expected to hear two proposals to alter a mixed-use proposal for the Lawrenceville neighborhood.
When the stadium was proposed, regional and local planning leaders agreed to a plan of restaurants, offices, shops, townhouses and lofts. But now, a proposal to add more apartment units has led to concern among some residents that they won’t get the quality development that was promised.
Paula Hastings, who was on the local planning commission when the original proposal was approved, said she’s afraid the 50 acres surrounding the stadium could become “apartment city.”
The stadium is home to the Gwinnett Braves, a minor league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.
