Rescue Mission to Feed Thousands on Thanksgiving Day

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, formerly known as the Macon Rescue Mission, is preparing a Thanksgiving feast for thousands of less fortunate people.

Hundreds of donors and volunteers will feed more than 1,000 elderly and homeless members in the community.

“Thanksgiving is a tradition for the Rescue Mission, and it’s all possible, because of the generosity of the community, the donors and the volunteers,” says Executive Director, Erin Reimers.

It took three weeks to prepare for the big meal, and Reimers says none of it would have been possible without the helping hands of the residents and the community.

“They’ve been in here all week long chopping vegetables, and preparing the to-go plates and that sort of thing,” says Reimers.

So, what’s on the menu? The group will dish up traditional favorites and hearty helpings of: turkey, dressing, macaroni and cheese, green beans, rolls, and pumpkin pie.

Kitchen manager Troy Johnson believes a good Thanksgiving meal includes a heartfelt community, and hope for those in need.

“One meal out of the year doesn’t seem like much, but it’s not so much that as it is to show people that somebody does care, and that we are here,” believes Johnson.

The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia will begin serving meals on Thanksgiving Day at 774 Hazel Street at 11:30 a.m.
