MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Volunteers and residents of the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia gathered Thursday morning to cook, prepare and delivery enough turkey and fixings to feed 2,200 people for Thanksgiving.
“We are delivering meals to the homeless, we are delivering meals to indigent, to the food insecure, to people on hospice, so anyone who needed a Thanksgiving meal we are dealing to,” said Amy Walker, Development Director of the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.
That was Amy Walker, she’s the Development Director of the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia and she said they’ve been coming to the Rescue Mission on Thanksgiving morning for years. They do it out of need, but also out of the love for Jesus Christ.
“This is a way for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. Not everyone has family to sit-down with. Not everyone has the luxury of having a Thanksgiving meal so we wanted to be able to offer a delicious Thanksgiving meal to those people,” said Walker.
Walker said the respond from those who receive the meal, is unforgettable.
“They’re very grateful. People are very excited to receive this meal,” said Walker.
