MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s Christmas Eve, and the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia wants everybody to enjoy in the holiday cheer.

In downtown Macon at the Loaves & Fishes Ministry, singing could be heard in the dining hall, and some of the onlookers cried as one of the homeless sang Can’t Give up Now.

The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, staff, residents and volunteers passed out plates of food to the homeless as they enjoyed a Christmas dinner together while singing. Coats, blankets and hygiene kits were also passed out as those working wished them a Merry Christmas.

“This is an extremely special time of the year because for us, as Christians, we celebrate the coming of Christ,” said Jason Beck, Men’s Program Director of the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia. “You know, a lot of the world focuses on presents, presents with a T, but, you know, we want to celebrate his presence. His presence with the C. This is a really small gesture and just showing some love and support to, a lot of times, a very forgotten group of our community. We just want to, you know, in this small gesture, we want to say we see you, we hear you, we love you, and we value you.”

If you want to help out the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, Beck says they will take any donations or you can volunteer. You can also check out their website for more information here.
