MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia is a faith-based organization that offers a life recovery program for men, women and children.
For more than 70 years, the mission says it has provided a path of hope, redemption and empowerment through Jesus Christ to break the cycles of abuse in many families. Men’s director Jason Beck says they want to provide a safe place for all their residents.
“The hope is we get men and women who are absolutely desperate for something new,” he said. “They’re at wit’s end. They want something different, and we want to represent a place that would enable them to experience that.”
Beck says the mission’s main goal is to create a safe space for residents to feel welcomed and accepted.
“The things men and women are coming to us for, we believe they are hurting, and they need help,” he said. “They wouldn’t be here if they didn’t want help. That’s our approach.“
The men’s recovery program has 115 men, and 40 men are in the after-care program. Resident Jason Sayers says this program has affected his life in many positive ways.
“They’re close to my heart,” he said. “The rescue mission has saved my life, and it’s taught me how to live again. From PTSD to all the other events that have happened in my life, I couldn’t say enough good things about the Macon Rescue Mission. The part I think I’ve learned to love others unconditionally. I try to be a leader and let others know that it’s okay to not be okay.”
The recovery program also provides residents with medical assistance, transportation, housing and future employment preparation.
