Registration opens for Warner Robins citizens police academy
The police department is offering a 12-week program that gives participants an opportunity to see the challenges and responsibilities officers make on a daily basis. One lieutenant says the classes will provide a level of transparency between the law and the community.
“They get to know us one on one. They can ask questions about policies and procedures. Where as out there on the street, and you’re working an accident or you’re working a call, that’s not the time to ask more questions. So it puts a more personable face on it,” Lt. Jeff McCommon said.
To be clear, once a person graduates from the academy, it does *not* mean that they’re an officer nor do they have arresting authority. The classes are free and people don’t have to live in Warner Robins to participate. Organizers say spots are filling up quickly.
