The Red Cross offers training for people interested in volunteering at shelters

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You can receive training from the Red Cross chapter in Middle Georgia, if you want to volunteer at a shelter.

The Red Cross held training sessions Friday morning and evening.

The sessions were created to teach people what they can expect when they volunteer at a shelter for Hurricane Irma evacuees.

Connie Henseler, Executive Director for the Central Georgia Red Cross chapter, said training helps volunteers and the people in the shelters.

“It’s so important to be trained before something happens, so then you really are ready to go. You know what to do,” Henseler said. “You can really jump into action and you’re again, comfortable with what you’re gonna be doing as a volunteer and you really know how to help in the situation.”

Henseler said the Red Cross always needs volunteers.
