Record-challenging heat arrives today

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A combination of sun and southwest winds will make for a hot day. With a record high of 90 degrees today, we are going to come very close to tying it.

Two things today:

  1. Less cloud cover and more sun will allow temperatures to increase.
  2. A southwesterly flow brings warm Gulf air into the southeast.
Will we at least tie the record high of 90? I don’t think so, but temperatures will be up there. And let’s face it: whether the high is 88 or 90, is your wardrobe going to be different? Probably not. The same applies tomorrow: warm southern air and mostly sunny skies will combine to launch our temperatures into the upper 80s even though our average high this time of the year is 75.

By the time Friday rolls around, additional cloud cover will help lower temperatures a bit into the mid 80s, along with increased rain chances Friday and Saturday. Expect slightly cooler temperatures this weekend (upper 70s and low 80s), and a chance for storms both days.
