Rain continues through New Year’s Eve

Middle Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s been quite a December, hasn’t it? The month has been very warm, and the past week has been rainy. Another record high was broken yesterday as we remain 20 – 30 degrees above the average. Here are the records broken this month:

Christmas Eve: High of 77, tying a record of 77 set in 1964.
Christmas Day: High of 78, tying a record of 78 set in 1982
December 27th: High of 79, beating a record of 78 set in 1987
December 28th: High of 78, beating a record of 76 set in 2007 and 2008.

That warmth continues today with winds from the south bringing warm, humid air into the area. Isolated showers are possible throughout the day and evening and overnight. Tomorrow sees much more rain, and here’s the most interesting part: we just need a little bit more rain to beat a December record.

December rainfall total: 9.70″
December record: 10.39″ (1972)

Do the math, and all we need is 0.69″ tomorrow to tie the record.

By Thursday, I still expect a chance for rain, but while Friday (New Year’s Day) looks cloudy, the rain is expected to end then. Highs will cool down to the 60s and 50s this weekend, as well.

Finally!
