Race For The Bibb County District Attorney’s Office Heats Up

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The race for the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office is heating up. The current District Attorney Greg Winters held a press conference today about his opponent’s political tactics. Winters is running against Attorney David Cook.

Winter said for months his opponent’s campaign has called his friends, colleagues, and neighbors attempting to raise doubts about Winter’s qualifications for the District Attorney position.

“Voters in the Macon judicial circuit began getting phone calls asking such questions as, if Greg Winters lost 9 out of 10 rape cases, would you be more or less likely to vote for him? Would you be more or less likely to vote for Greg Winters if he incompetently drafted the indictment in the Fiancé
Burning case, and it was dismissed by the trial court? Poll questions claiming falsehoods as hypothetical’s are one of the oldest political tricks in the book. Such questions are nothing more than an effort to plant a seed of doubt without absolutely no basis in truth,” said Bibb
County District Attorney Greg Winters.

Winters said that he was only involved in 1 rape case in 2000 and that was the Rio Bravo rape case which the defendant was convicted. Winters also said he wasn’t the District Attorney nor was he the assigned prosecutor in the Fiancé Burning case. Winters has been Bibb County’s District Attorney for
the last 21 months.
