P&Z defers Douglass House demolition permit, Owners and supporters able to strike deal
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County’s Planning and Zoning Commission defers a demolition permit in the Douglass House controversy, giving the owner of the home and supporters a chance to strike a deal.
Dozens of supporters turned out to hear the commission determine the future of the building and property.
Homeowner Lou Patel and his representative Jim Rollins did not want to comment on today’s meeting, or discuss a deal a potential buyer offered.
Previously, Mercer University offered $200,000 to Patel based off the deed the officials received. Patel says that amount was too low.
Commission members suggested within the 45 day deferral, both parties need to come a conclusion keeping in mind there are options to move the building, or preserve it.
