Putting in “Overtyme” to give back

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The smell of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and fellowship filled Overtyme Bar and Grill. The restaurant hosted it’s annual “Taking Care of Each Other” project. The event was mainly for homeless men, women and families around the community

CEO of Overtyme, Charity Harris came up with the idea when she first opened Overtyme.

“We just decided that we wanted to do something to give back to the community,” Harris said. “To not just be a business, but to be able to give back to be people who are in need, this time of year.”

Volunteer, Alice Bailey said the most important thing to them is, “creating an atmosphere of love, and sharing to people who perhaps have not had that feeling all year.”

Several businesses and schools in the community showed their support and provided services to people in need. They offered free haircuts, blood pressure screenings and dental exams.

People like Vladimir Mills, who is homeless, are very grateful for their support.

“I thank god, for a place like this that’s helping to have more fellowship in the community with the homeless,” said Mills.

Harris says her favorite part about the project is seeing the people enjoy it.

“To see the people that we’re really helping. the ones who truly need and that we’re able to impact their lives and give back to them,” said Harris.
