Push for New Business in Downtown Macon
MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – There’s construction on Cherry Street in Downtown Macon and the plans are to continue to build.
It’s part of a push to get new businesses and residents in downtown Macon to create an economic boom in the area.
Newtown Macon is a nonprofit organization looking to revitalize the downtown area. The group focuses on increasing residents and jobs downtown and recently sold three buildings on Cherry street to a Macon native.
Kris Hattaway is the Director of Place at Newtown Macon, she explained the purpose for this push in development.
“They’re going to have lofts there so that means that more people will be living right here on Cherry street, and then the retail that comes in the bottom not confirmed what that is right now whatever business that it, that’s just more feet on the street in the heart of downtown,” Hattaway said.
Hattaway said that by Labor Day, there will be 100 more lofts in the downtown area, as well as more business opening in downtown Macon.
She thinks Newtown Macon’s efforts will bring more “feet on the street.”
Which means more economic development to the city and a restored downtown area.
