Pulaski County Schools Go on Lockdown
HAWKINSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Pulaski County Schools went on lockdown at around 3 PM today after an unidentified man came onto the football field at Hawkinsville High School.
The man had a pellet gun on the football field while a class was going on outside. 41 NBC spoke with Principal Rosemary Wright at Hawkinsville High School about the incident, she says she’s “glad that the situation was handled so quickly, you know we rehearse drills for this all the time and you just hope things like this never happen.”
41 NBC also put in calls to the Pulaski County Sherriff’s Office who confirmed that a man was arrested after they were alerted of the man on the high school campus. They have not released a name of the suspect.
Officials at the Pulaski County Sherriff’s Office also stressed the importance of the new protocol when addressing emergency phone calls from schools after the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.
“We want to make sure that we address those situations quickly,” officials at the Pulaski County Police Office said. “Making sure visitors come in through the front of the school and sign in and keeping doors locked are also things being enforced to keep everyone safe.”
