Public Properties Committee Approves Terminal Station Lease Extension

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Macon gets to keep Terminal Station, and soon you could get to garden with the community.

Macon’s Public Properties committee tonight approved a resolution to extend the short term lease agreement with the Macon Transit Authority for use of the Terminal Station, to last through the city’s existence–that’ll be through January when consolidation kicks in.

They also decided to allow community gardens to go up at various unused properties around the city.

Committee chairman Rick Hutto thinks it’s a great idea to strengthen the community.

“A neighborhood or a church or a civic organization, for example, would just sort of adopt one of these little pieces of properties,” says Hutto.  “They can plant flowers, they can plant vegetables, they can plant cacti for all I know, but what they would do is pay a registration fee of $10 and then they would just adopt it  They could plant things there, if the neighbors wanted to plant cucumbers, or tomatoes, and then use those to serve the community., particularly for kids to learn how things are made.”

Council also is working to add an exit from the Macon Centreplex parking lot onto Second Street.
