Public Invited to Participate in East Side Education Summit

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents in East Macon are invited to come out to a summit meeting Thursday night focusing on education.

City council members Elaine Lucas, along with Rick Hutto and Lonnie Miley are hosting the second meeting for this area of town. Lucas expects a large crowd at the Northeast High School gym. The main topic of discussion will be education on the east side, both the good and the bad.

“Let’s talk about what’s going on, cheer about what’s good, spotlight and do high fives for all of those great things,” Lucas said. “We also want to tackle the challenges.”

Lucas says those challenges include funding and getting parents involved with their students.

City officials and school district officials are expected to be at the meeting. The public will have an opportunity to ask elected officials questions.

The summit is Thursday night from 6 to 8 at the Northeast High School gym. It’s located at 1646 Upper River Road.
