Prison guard sentenced to 30 days in prison

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A federal court judge sentenced former correctional officer, 23-year-old Meagan Deaton to 30 days in prison for her involvement in a smuggling incident.

On October 17, 2013 Deaton tried to bring a cell phone for an inmate in exchange for money into the Correctional Institution in McRae, Georgia.

United States Attorney Edward Tarver says “This defendant chose to place her own selfish interests above the safety of the Federal Bureau of Prisoners employees and the public she was sworn to protect”.

Additional sentencing for Deaton includes 60 hours of community service and one year of supervised release.
