President Trump: U.S. has captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro
President says Maduro and his wife were removed from Venezuela following a U.S. operation in Caracas

(CNN) President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States has removed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from office following what he described as a large-scale U.S. operation in Caracas.
Trump announced the claim on Truth Social, writing that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been captured and removed from Venezuela. Two sources cited in the report said the couple was taken from their bedroom by U.S. forces.
Trump later told Fox News that Maduro and Flores were aboard the USS Iwo Jima and en route to New York.
Trump describes military operation
According to Trump, the operation involved an early-morning strike in Caracas. He said he believed no Americans were killed during the mission, though he said some were injured.
Trump also said a helicopter was hit during the operation but that no aircraft were lost.
Justice Department actions announced
In a separate announcement, Attorney General Pam Bondi said on social media that Maduro would face prosecution in the United States.
The Justice Department unsealed a new indictment Saturday against Maduro, his wife and his son, according to the report.
The department alleges Maduro and his allies turned Venezuelan institutions into what it described as a drug-trafficking-driven network of corruption for personal gain.
Maduro was previously indicted in 2020 on narco-terrorism and cocaine trafficking charges.
