Prayer in the park for “Revivolution- A city on our knees”
“We are praying over the city of Macon and the Middle Georgia region. In addition, specifically we are praying for oneness in Macon as well as for the body of Christ,” said True Gospel Christian Church pastor, Walter Ral Waltower.
Middle Georgia residents are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to “Revivolution – A city on our knees.” It is scheduled to be held Aug. 17, at Coleman Hill Park located at 285 Spring St., in Macon. The event will kick-off with praise and worship at 5:30 p.m., with prayers starting at 6 p.m.
The purpose of the prayer in the park event is to unite the Middle Georgia community, said Waltower.
“We need to unite under a common vision in order to begin strategically rebuilding the authority and influence that God has given the church,” he said.
True Gospel Christian Church is initiating the prayer service in conjunction with several other churches of different denominations such as, The Welcome Center Church, Lawrence Drive Baptist Church, Pine Forest Baptist Church, Heritage House, and Center Hill Baptist Church.
He said, “Revivolution” stems from a sermon series he shared with his congregation.
“It caused a stirring in my heart that now was the time to rebuild,” says Waltower. “Similar to Nehemiah’s charge to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. The expectation is that when we come together, there will be no pretense. We will all lay down our egos, as well as our personal agendas, and allow Christ to be the head of His church. Our desire is not to build a church but the church.”
The coming together of area churches is symbolic of what has happened with the consolidation of Bibb County and the City of Macon, according to Waltower.
“Revivolution, is further underscoring that now is the time and where there is an attitude of oneness and togetherness, God commands a blessing in that very place,” he added. “ In Ezekiel 37, God instructed Ezekiel to pick-up two sticks that were divided and to present them together as one stick in the hand of God.”
The pastor of True Gospel Christian Church says people need to refrain from having “a” church mentality, and choose to have “the” church mentality.
“A person who only focuses on their local congregation has an “a” church mentality,” says Waltower. “ But a person who focuses on the church, is one who understands that they are a part of the corporate church. Therefore, there is more of a desire to operate as a cohesive body of Christ.”
Waltower says the prayer service will be a catalyst that will help overcome division between Middle Georgia churches.
