Middle Georgia players win big as Powerball jackpot soars to $1.7B
Tickets sold in Macon, Gray, Vienna, Byron, Pinehurst and Milledgeville have all won prizes in recent drawings.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Powerball jackpot has climbed to $1.7 billion, making it the third-largest prize in U.S. history. The cash value is $770.3 million.
Lottery officials say two people in Atlanta each one $1 million in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, but no one hit the $1B+ jackpot.
In Middle Georgia:
- Tickets sold in Gray and Vienna each won $50,000 in Powerball drawings on September 1.
- A ticket in Byron brought in $20,000 in Mega Millions on September 2.
- Macon also had a $10,000 winner in the Georgia Five game on August 30.
- A player in Milledgeville won $20,000 on the Wild Star Multiplier Diggi Game on August 29.
- A Macon player won $50,000 with a ticket purchased at 20’s Pubs and Subs for the September 3 Powerball drawing.
- A Pinehurst player won $50,000 with a ticket purchased at Pinehurst Gas N Go Travel for the September 3 Powerball drawing.
Georgia Lottery CEO Gretchen Corbin said the region has seen a streak of luck.
“Middle Georgia has been really lucky as all of Georgia,” Corbin said. “With all of this excitement around the Powerball jackpot, we have had lots of winners in different prize categories, maybe not the jackpot, but up to million dollar winners. Just last night, we had two million dollar winners in Georgia. In Macon, just in the past two weeks, we’ve had five big winners.”
The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 292 million. Powerball tickets cost $2 and must be purchased before 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 6. The next drawing is scheduled for 10:59 that night.
About 40 cents of every dollar spent on Powerball in Georgia goes toward education programs, including the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships.
