Portions of Macon-Bibb landfill, parks closed due to heavy rain
MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – With several inches of rain falling the past few days, Macon-Bibb County is closing parts of Amerson River, the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail, and the Walker Road Landfill.
At Amerson River Park, the boat launch on the north side of the park, the boat takeout on the south side of the park, and the unpaved trail around the pond are closed due to the level of the Ocmulgee River.
The portion of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail past the foot bridge near Spring Street is also closed due to river level.
Macon-Bibb also reports the working face of the landfill is closed because of the rain’s impact to operating conditions.
Commercial vendors that take waste directly to the landfill are unable to do so. However, residents can bring their solid waste and leave it at the transfer station.
The Solid Waste Department expects to reopen the landfill to commercial vendors in the next day or two once road conditions improve.
