Porter Elementary incorporates eclipse into lesson plans
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Many Bibb County Schools incorporated the Solar Eclipse into their lessons plans Monday night. Porter Elementary School wanted it’s students to to take part in the magic.
Classes watched videos, played games, made arts an crafts, including star dust. Principal, Dr. Cami Hamlin says it was important for her students to understand the importance of the eclipse.
“This is a once in a lifetime event,” said Dr. Hamlin. “As they say, an awesome astronomical event, so we’re really excited to celebrate it. Also having that social experience with your friends as opposed to your being alone with your family, or maybe being at home and not being allowed to go outside.”
The school made sure every student had a pair of special glasses. All of the classes practiced using the glasses before heading outside.
Most of the students got to go outside during peak time, the smaller children who didn’t, watched the NASA feed from inside. Parents were also invited to watch the fun.
