Pop-up showers and storms again today

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Pop-up showers and storms are in the works today as a summer-like pattern continues in Middle Georgia. This is the kind of pattern we’re used to seeing at this time of the year: daytime heating helps flare up storms. Then once the evening arrives, the storms fizzle. The video above highlights why you can have a high chance of rain (today, the chance is 60%) and still remain dry for the day.

The chance for afternoon storms continues throughout the 7-Day, although the chances look lower going into Friday and Saturday. The risk for severe weather is marginal, which is the lowest amount of risk you can have. That means I can’t rule out the chance of a severe storm, but they will be infrequent. Most of the storms will be your typical summer storms — brief downpour, lightning, some gusty winds, etc. A severe storm contains one of the following: winds greater than 57.5 mph, hail of at least one inch, or a tornado. You can safely eliminate the last two criteria; for any severe storm that does manage to form today, the main concern will be high wind.
