Police want you to safe while shopping on Black Friday

MACON, Georgia(41NBC/WMGT) – It’s no secret that shopping on Black Friday can be chaotic, so the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said there will be more police on the streets and at shopping centers to keeping an eye on everyone.

Lieutenant Randy Gonzalez said it’s important everyone is safe.

“We’ll hire off duty deputies or officers to work inside the stores just to make sure everything flows smoothly,” Gonzalez said.

He said you can help things run smoothly by avoiding arguments or fights inside the store.

“Don’t get into a confrontation with someone over an item, it’s not that important,” Gonzalez said.”If you have a problem with someone in the store or with another person, you know, either find one of the sales associate or even find a off duty deputy working inside the store. ”

Gonzalez said that you should be careful when you’re in the inside of the store, but also in the parking lot. He said people will be watching you when you’re shopping, so make sure that you hide your items in your car.

“Try not to keep packages and valuables in your car when you go to a location to shop. If you put your packages in your car, you know, put them in the trunk area,” he said.

Gonzalez said you should also shop with other people to help decrease your chances of being robbed.

Gonzalez said the sheriff’s office wants Black Friday to be a good experience for everyone.

“For all a lot of people this is a day they enjoy getting out and just doing the Black Friday shopping, and also the shopping on Thanksgiving Day. We want it to be a fun experience for everyone.”

Some stores will be open Thanksgiving night. Call stores to see what time they open on Thanksgiving and Friday.
