Police searching for prison escapee in Monroe County

UPDATE (8/28): The Georgia Department of Corrections captured Keyshawn Cobb in Decatur Friday afternoon.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Department of Corrections is asking the public to be on the lookout for an inmate who walked away from his work detail at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Thursday morning.

19-year-old Keyshawn Markese Cobb walked away from his duty in the kitchen at the GPSTC in Monroe County. He was being held at the Al Burris Prison on the training center’s campus.

According to a Facebook post from the Monroe County Emergency Management Agency, dogs and helicopters will be used in Forsyth and Monroe County to try and locate Cobb. Police are asking the public, especially people living around the GPSTC, to be vigilant but not try to apprehend Cobb.

Cobb is 5-foot-11 and weighs 140 lbs.
