Police raid Macon businesses for illegal gambling
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office raided three Macon businesses for illegal gambling practices Tuesday.
According to the GBI, the businesses were giving cash to customers who played the Coin Operated Amusement Machines. In Georgia, winning credits can only be redeemed for lottery tickets or store merchandise.
The three businesses that were raided are:
- Shell Food Mart, 2700 Riverside Drive, Macon
- Poplar Mart, 565 Poplar Street, Macon
- Lizella Supermarket, 3309 Holley Road, Macon
During the raids, agents seized monetary assets from the illegal use of the gaming machines.
The Georgia Lottery Corporation, the Georgia Department of Revenue and the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Multiple arrests are pending.
Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke Jr. will hold a press conference today at 3 p.m.
