Authorities in South Carolina are investigating a mass shooting that left at least four people dead and more than 20 others injured.

(CNN)- Authorities in South Carolina are investigating a mass shooting that left at least four people dead and more than 20 others injured overnight Sunday on Saint Helena Island in Beaufort County.

Deputies say the gunfire broke out during a high school reunion at Willie’s Bar and Grill. The restaurant and its parking lot were filled with people at the time.

The owner of Willie’s told investigators he heard what sounded like machine gun fire outside but saw no signs of trouble before the shooting began.

Officials say they have identified persons of interest in the attack, but it’s unclear if any arrests have been made.

The investigation remains ongoing.
