Piedmont Macon offers free oncology nurse navigators to guide patients through cancer journey
Kimberly Lewis, manager of oncology services at Piedmont Macon, says they have free resources for those in need.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Piedmont Macon is encouraging community members to use its Piedmont Oncology Nurse Navigators program, which helps patients navigate the cancer journey.
Kimberly Lewis, manager of oncology services at Piedmont Macon, said the program is a free resource for patients.
“We will go through step by step we’ll help them from the time they’re diagnosed all the way through survivorship,” says Lewis.
According to Piedmont Macon, oncology nurse navigators are specially trained nurses who help assess and coordinate patients’ needs. The team provides patients and their families with education and support, as well as information about hospital services and community resources. They also serve as a liaison between patients and their health care team.
Lewis said the navigators help patients and their families understand the cancer and treatment plan prescribed by their physician and identify questions to ask throughout the process.
