Piedmont Macon helping people make informed decisions during health emergencies
Director of Emergency Services at Piedmont Macon, Michael Dykes, says it's important to know the difference between the E.R. and urgent care when making health decisions.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Piedmont Macon is helping people across Middle Georgia make informed decisions during health emergencies.
Director of Emergency Services at Piedmont Macon, Michael Dykes, says it’s important to know the difference between the E.R. and urgent care when making health decisions.
“The E.R. is certainly a dynamic place,” says Dykes. “They have all the resources you would need for true emergent and urgent care.”
Dykes says the E.R. is always open, whereas urgent care will have select hours.
“The E.R. has all of the high level equipment, CAT scans, MRI,” says Dykes.
Dykes says urgent care is for coughs, colds, the flu, or Covid.
Dykes adds “Cuts, scrapes, sprains, strains, anything that would not be considered life threatening” for the list on why to visit the urgent care.
Dykes says urgent care is quicker, whereas the E.R. may take longer for patients.
