Piedmont doctor shares importance of testing for colon cancer, new technique to treat colon cancer
Dr. Sam Atallah says colon cancer is preventable if caught early.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Piedmont doctor is highlighting the importance of colon cancer screenings and sharing details about a new technique to treat the disease.
Dr. Sam Atallah said colon cancer is preventable if caught early.
“The most important thing to know is that it is actually preventable if you get appropriate screening,” Atallah said.
He added that anyone experiencing changes in bowel movements, blood in their stool, cramping, nausea or abdominal distension should contact their doctor for testing.
Atallah said the recommended screening age is now 45.
“We’re seeing more and more folks who are younger develop colon cancer,” he said, noting there has been a 53% increase in colon cancer diagnoses among younger patients.
