Piedmont doctor shares Halloween safety tips for children, adults
Piedmont Primary Care’s Dr. Abraham Butler says safety is a top priority.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Piedmont doctor is sharing safety tips ahead of Halloween for both children and adults.
Piedmont Primary Care’s Dr. Abraham Butler says safety should remain a top priority during fall activities.
Dr. Butler says when carving pumpkins, it’s important to use a dedicated carving kit supervised by an adult and to give kids age-appropriate tasks.
“Any adults with kids 12 and under, maybe let them prioritize gutting out the gourd and maybe putting their designs on and painting,” says Dr. Butler. “Let the adults do the cutting.”
He adds that another important safety tip is to be mindful when selecting costumes.
“I want those who are wearing dark colored costumes to prioritize wearing either some type of glow sticks or glow bracelets,” says Dr. Butler. “Try to put on some reflective material so that people can see you at night.”
He also warns that masks can block peripheral vision and reminds parents to make sure costumes are flame-resistant and fit well.
For those handing out candy, Dr. Butler advises securing pets away from trick-or-treaters and being cautious if you have a fire pit outside your home.
