Perry High Student Arrested for Shooting BB Gun at Student

A Perry High School student fired a BB gun at another student on school grounds hitting him in the elbow and shoulder area. The victim has been checked out, but injuries were not serious. The student is now back at football practice.

Houston County Schools Spokesperson, Beth McLaughlin, calls today’s incident “inappropriate horse play” and says it wasn’t with malicious intent.

Perry Police arrested 18-year-old Antonio Dewayne Mitchell. He’s charged with aggravated assault, carrying a weapon in a school safety zone and disrupting a public school. He was taken to the Houston County Detention Facility.

McLaughlin says typically in this situation the student will be suspended from school until a tribunal, and that should happen within 10 days.
