PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Perry Fire Department has two stations up and running in an effort to speed up response times.

Davis Farm Station is in east Perry and will allow firefighters to respond to calls in half of the time.

The $1.2 million facility sits on land donated by the Davis family.

Another benefit residents will see in the long run is a reduction in home owner’s insurance costs.

Perry Fire Chief Joel Gray says a 1-10 insurance ratings systems is used to determine the cost and east Perry’s used to be much lower.

“The ten out on this side of town is obviously the worst rating you can have so that’s something that we definitely wanted to address because our homeowners were enjoying the five up until November 2008,” Gray said.

The building took 9 months to complete and features a radio room, workout facility, bunks and a climate controlled lockers for equipment.

Chief Gray says the plan is to bring on more firefighters at the end of the next fiscal year so both stations can be fully operational and fully staffed when they respond to emergency calls.
