Perry to add 35 new downtown apartments
City leaders say the project supports walkability, housing diversity and increased foot traffic for downtown businesses.

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry will soon be making room for more residents downtown.
Starting in March, the city will begin the first phase of 35 new apartments on Northside Drive.
The city will soon be transforming an empty dirt lot, beside The Chalet Lofts, into 35 new apartments for Perry residents. Perry’s Community Development Director Joe Duffy tells 41NBC this project was approved due to the growth in downtown Perry.
Duffy says Northside Drive went through a small area planning process by city council in March of 2025. Duffy says with more businesses and infrastructure coming to the city of Perry, more housing was needed.
“The goal of that process was to try to connect different parts of downtown to make for a more walkable environment here in the historic area,” said Duffy.
Duffy says with Perry receiving positive feedback from their newly built chalet lofts, they decided to add on to that modern type of living.
“Folks are interested in living in our downtown area, and there will be a few different sizes of apartments, and if I had to guess their price range will be comparable to the existing building, which is a range of options based on the size,” Duffy said.
He believes this new project will increase the diversity of housing options in the area.
“We’ve seen market conditions calling for different types of housing,” Duffy said. “Our comprehensive plan recommends a diversity of housing options. This is a relatively new concept for downtown Perry. But I think the previous building was well received, and folks liked the way it looked. So, it’s just giving us another option to offer the public.”
Not only will this project be great for future residents but also downtown businesses.
“It’ll definitely helps our businesses by providing more foot traffic within the city,” Duffy said .”I think that we would like to see a healthy flow of pedestrian activity across the city. So, I think more people generally helps the business, and we’d expect that here too.”
Duffy tells 41NBC the apartments could be done in December of this year.
