Pedestrian killed in early morning crash on Pio Nono Avenue in Macon

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal traffic collision involving a pedestrian early Tuesday morning on Pio Nono Avenue.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal traffic collision involving a pedestrian early Tuesday morning on Pio Nono Avenue.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center received a call just before 4 a.m. reporting a crash under the Interstate 75 bridge at the intersection of Pio Nono and Glendale avenues.

Investigators say a 40-year-old man driving a silver Kia Soul struck a 36-year-old male pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway while wearing dark clothing.

When deputies arrived, they found the pedestrian unresponsive.

Paramedics responded and attempted treatment, but the victim succumbed to his injuries. Coroner Robinson pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation by a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office fatality investigator. No charges have been filed at this time.
