UPDATE: Pedestrian killed in crash along Mercer University Drive

MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly traffic accident involving a pedestrian. It happened at the intersection of Mercer University Drive and Arlington Park around 1:30 Friday morning.

Deputies report that 61-year-old Walter Kirtz of Macon stepped from the center lane and walked into the path of a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer as it was approaching the intersection.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Kirtz later died at the hospital.

The driver of the Lancer was not injured.
