Peake’s Consolidation Bill Passes in the House
The Macon and Bibb County governments moved one step closer to consolidation today.
The State House of Representatives passed Allen Peake’s House Bill 98 with a 149 to 9 vote.
The bill calls to merge the city and county governments to create economic growth and reduce the number of politicians. The bill will now be reviewed by the senate, where it could have a hard time passing.
If senators Robert Brown and Cecil Staton clear the bill voters will decide on consolidation in the November elections.
District 139 Rep. David Lucas voted against the bill and District 138 Rep. Nikki Randall did not vote on the bill today.
