Peach County Says Yes To SPLOST

PEACH COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Peach County voted yes for the penny tax Tuesday.  68% of residents voted in favor of the SPLOST and 32% voted against the tax. 

Chairman of the Peach County Commission, Melvin Walker, says passing this tax a few years early will help them get a jump start on capital projects.

The tax will generate nearly $22 million. $3.9 million will go to both the cities of Byron and Fort Valley.
The county will receive about $13.9 million. This new SPLOST won’t go into effect until January 1, 2015. The current SPLOST expires December 31, 2014.
