Peach County Jail Expansion Complete

The first phase of a $9.8 million project to improve the Peach County jail has finally wrapped up after more than a year of construction.

Funding for the project came from the 2008 SPLOST.

The expansion features 116 beds and state of the art technology, such as a computer visitation system. There is also a 360 degree view of the new cells, which will help with security.

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese, says one of the biggest advantages to the expansion is being able to separate inmates based on their crimes.

He also says, adding more beds means savings for tax payers, because inmate won’t have to be housed elsewhere. Inmates will move into the newly constructed part of the jail at the end of the week and then the old part will be closed and it’s renovation will begin. The upgrades to the existing structure will take around 6 months.
