Peach County hungry to bounce back this season
The Peach County Trojans went 4-7 last season and are ready to get back to their winning ways, starting with their season opener against Northeast at FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Peach County Trojans are coming off their first losing season since 1986.
Head coach Marquis Westbrook, entering his second season, has the Trojans poised to get back to their winning ways. Westbrook has some big shoes to fill to match former head coach Chad Campbell’s 16 winning seasons and Rance Gillespie’s six winning seasons, not to mention their combined three state championships. However, the start of his second season won’t be easy as the Trojans face a tough Northeast team.
Behind senior quarterback DJ Hudson, Coach Westbrook and this Peach County team want to take the necessary steps to control the offense, not make mistakes, win the turnover battle, and stop the Raiders’ dominant run game.
“This week one matchup is going to be a big one for several reasons,” Coach Westbrook said at Thursday’s morning practice. “We got to get the taste out of our mouth from last season. I told our team, it’s a continuation from last year and you’re only good as your last game. We didn’t win our last game so we got to make sure we get that taste out of our mouth this week. It’s been a good build up from the spring to the summer to fall camp so to speak, until now, and our kids are prepared. Northeast is a good football team. They got great athletes and a good coach in Coach Wiggins, and we are expecting a good game.”
Hudson is all about being a vocal leader and holding the rest of his team accountable as he enters his last season.
“They’re a great team, they are coached very well,” he said after practice. “We just got to play Peach County football and have each others’ back. Whenever [a teammate is] doing something wrong, speak out on it, and don’t let it slide just because they are your homeboy, but like get after them. I love my teammates, and let’s go get a dub.”
