Peach Concerned Citizens host community discussion ahead of runoff election
Residents discuss voter turnout, leadership, development, and university-community connections

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Peach Concerned Citizens hosted a community discussion Saturday November 15th, encouraging residents to stay engaged during the runoff election and share their thoughts on issues affecting Fort Valley and Peach County.
Attendees discussed low voter turnout, the need for stronger leadership, and more structure in city council meetings. Some suggested following Robert’s Rules of Order or consulting a parliamentarian to ensure debates are fair and productive.
The forum also highlighted economic development, housing, and how decisions made in Fort Valley and Byron impact the entire county. Residents emphasized the importance of leaders being present and connected to the community.
Students from Fort Valley State University attended the discussion, sharing ideas on how a stronger connection between the university and the city could benefit both students and residents.
“The most powerful thing all of us have is our vote. And the only vote that doesn’t matter is the one that’s not cast,” said Mayor Jeffrey Lundy.
He also said he hopes to continue working on projects that improve neighborhoods and bring new opportunities to Fort Valley.
Peach Concerned Citizens say they plan to host more events to keep residents informed and engaged throughout the runoff election.
Election Day is December 2nd. Lundy faces Shakeena B. Reeves in the runoff racerunoff race for Fort Valley mayor.
