Peach Co. Superintendent to Retire

Peach County Superintendent, Dr. Susan Clark announced she’ll retire this July. After taking over the reigns of a struggling school district in February of 2008, Clark helped revitalized the school system.

“I just feel like I’ve put my family on the back burner long enough. I feel like I’ve accomplished what the board wanted accomplished when I came,” said Clark.

PeachCounty student achievement went up and the district regained SACS accreditation. One of the more difficult decisions for Clark came during the economic downturn, as budgets cuts took away nearly 800-thousand dollars from PeachCounty‘s budget.

“It came down to two things. And that was going to a four day week or letting 39 teachers go. I could not see that it was going to be in the best interest of our students a week before school started to let 39 teachers go,” said Clark.
