Payne City Council Says ‘No’ to Medical Waste Facility
Payne City Council shot down a proposal to put a medical waste facility in their area.
The council voted 3 to 1 against the MedSafe plant, saying it doesn’t meet the city’s regulations when it comes to handling solid waste.
Dr. Lindsay Holliday, a resident of the surrounding area says he’s relieved.
“They talked about creating jobs and yet right next door, this antique mall, and some eating places…it would not help those businesses , it would hurt those businesses if they had a stinky smell come over them every day,” Holliday says. “This would not have helped Payne City, this would have damaged not only the existing businesses but the neighbors who live right next door.”
Councilman Phil Martin was the only city official to vote in favor of the plant. Right now it’s not clear whether MedSafe will try to appeal the council’s decision.
