Part of Macon-Bibb animal shelter under three-day quarantine

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Part of the Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Center is quarantined off after a puppy was diagnosed with parvo.

According to a news release from the Macon-Bibb government, six puppies were dropped off at the shelter and placed in the isolation treatment room for observation. When the parvo test came back positive, the room was sealed off and the Department of Agriculture was notified.

The litter of six puppies was euthanized, according to city officials.

That part of the shelter will be quarantined for three days. Officials from the Department of Agriculture will return on Monday for further review. During the quarantine, only one technician will be allowed to monitor the room. The room will be cleaned three times a day.

New puppies are brought into the isolation treatment room for observation to see if they show signs of sickness. No dogs will be brought in or taken out of that area during the quarantine.
