Parking Garage will transform into a park this weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WGMT) – The top level of the parking garage on Mulberry Street will change into a park Friday and Saturday.

Mercer University student Cole Porter came up with this idea through the 2017 Knight Cities Challenge.

This temporary park will be called Garage Parklet.

Porter said the goal of the park is to allow the community to have fun in a space that is isn’t used often.

“This is a technique that a lot of cities and communities around the United State have used, popping up activities and programming in specific locations to stir up enthusiasm and get the ball rolling on improving those specific spaces and getting people invovled,” Porter said.

Garage Parklet will open Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and then again Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
