Parents of Handcuffed Child Meet with Sharpton’s Organization

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Today, the family of the 6-year old girl who was handcuffed at a Milledgeville school met in Atlanta with leaders of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.

President of the NAN Atlanta chapter, Marcus Coleman, tells 41 NBC that the group wants the Milledgeville Police Chief to publicly explain why he decided to drop the charges against the child.  She was accused of having a violent temper tantrum at Creekside Elementary School on April 13th.

Coleman says the girl has been allowed to go back to school.  Still, leaders of their organization want the Baldwin County School system to change their policies, so that children aren’t taken to jail. Instead, NAN wants kids to be assisted and stabilized by personnel within the school system.

The National Action Network is requesting an official response to their concerns from the school system and the police department.
